The Mavericks’ stance on a potential Anthony Davis trade remains consistent and deliberate.
According to Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal, Dallas is prioritizing the return of at least one impactful young player if it ultimately decides to move Davis, with Jonathan Kuminga of the Warriors and Zaccharie Risacher of the Hawks among the names on its internal radar.
Both Golden State and Atlanta have been linked to Davis, but neither path looks straightforward.
In the Warriors’ case, league sources have downplayed the likelihood of Golden State parting with either Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler, both of whom would be required for salary-matching purposes in a direct deal.
Multi-team constructions remain theoretically possible, but Afseth reports there has been no real traction on frameworks that would send Kuminga to Dallas while routing Davis elsewhere.
Atlanta presents a cleaner structural fit, but motivation remains the question. Sources told Afseth that Risacher is viewed as a key piece Dallas would want in any Hawks-centered deal.
So far, Atlanta has not shown a willingness to include the former top pick unless the price clearly makes sense from its perspective.
Complicating matters is Davis’ contract situation. He is eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension in August and is expected to seek one, whether he stays in Dallas or is traded, according to Afseth.
Any acquiring team would be committing not just assets, but long-term money as well.
