Austin Carr will be back on Cavs broadcasts after all

Mr. Cavalier isn’t going anywhere.

Specifically, Austin Carr will indeed return to the Cavaliers’ broadcast team for the 2026-27 season, ending the uncertainty created when his name was notably absent from the team’s original announcement last week.

Rock Entertainment Sports Network revealed the full crew Saturday, with Carr included alongside John Michael, Brad Daugherty, Serena Winters and Cayleigh Griffin.

That’s noteworthy because when the Cavs announced their new broadcast arrangement with DAZN on Tuesday, they specifically named Michael, Daugherty, Winters and Griffin as members of the team making the move. Carr wasn’t mentioned.

As we wrote at the time, that raised an obvious question about whether the longtime analyst’s television run had come to an end. We have our answer.

Carr, 78, has been part of Cavs broadcasts for decades and remains involved with the organization beyond television. The former No. 1 overall draft pick played nine seasons for Cleveland and had his No. 34 retired by the franchise.

He also remains, quite simply, one of the most recognizable voices associated with Cavs basketball.

Carr has been listed as a pregame and postgame analyst, so his primary role will be in the studio rather than alongside John Michael for every game.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll never be courtside. Carr worked in a similar capacity last season and occasionally filled in for Daugherty or joined Daugherty and Michael for a three-man booth.

So there still could be opportunities for some classic AC during games. His regular home, though, will be the pregame and postgame shows.

So the new broadcast setup will look different. The distribution will be different. The network situation is different. But viewers will still get some “Get that weak stuff outta here.”

And frankly, it wouldn’t sound quite like Cavs basketball without it.
