Fans watching the Lakers may notice something new on LeBron James’ jersey.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James is expected to wear a commemorative patch honoring his record-setting 23rd NBA season. The patch will appear on the upper right of his chest and features a silhouette of James’ familiar pregame chalk toss.
Behind it are three colored stripes, representing the three franchises for which he has played. The number 23 sits prominently at the center.
James, 41, is expected to wear the patch for the remainder of the regular season. After each game, it will be removed, dated and authenticated before being placed into select Topps trading cards.
He will start wearing it for Monday’s game at Sacramento, where his NBA career began back in 2003.
The milestone became official in November, when James surpassed Vince Carter for the most seasons played in NBA history. Carter appeared in 22 seasons. James missed the first 14 games this year due to sciatica but returned without much drop-off.
Despite his age, James continues to produce. Through 36 games, he is averaging 21.9 points, 6.9 assists and 5.9 rebounds. The Lakers are 23-13 and sit fifth in the Western Conference.
