If you are trying to sort out what is actually happening with Anthony Davis, you are not alone.

ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that the Mavericks star is expected to undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his left hand, a procedure that would sideline him for several months and potentially end his season.

Davis publicly disagreed. Loudly.

“Yall better stop listening to all these lies on these apps!” Davis wrote on X. He followed that up with another post. “Lies! But yall keep listening to them.”

That leaves two possibilities. Either the situation is still fluid and Davis has not made a final decision, or there is a disagreement over what “expected” actually means.

What is not disputed is that Davis suffered ligament damage and has been seeking multiple medical opinions. Surgery remains on the table, and league sources continue to indicate it would require a lengthy recovery.

Before the injury, Davis was a frequent name in trade discussions — being linked to the Hawks, Bucks, Warriors, Raptors and others. That interest has cooled since the injury, making it more likely Davis finishes the season in Dallas.

Davis is making $54.1 million this season and is eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension in August. Sources have said his camp, led by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group, does not believe the Mavericks are prepared to make that commitment.
