The starters are set, and yes, people around the league noticed who was not on the list.
The NBA announced its All-Star starters, with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham, and Tyrese Maxey representing the Eastern Conference.
Out West, the starting group features Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, and Victor Wembanyama.
The format will again be different. This year’s game will be a U.S. vs. World tournament, played Feb. 15 at the Clippers’ Intuit Dome, featuring three teams and four 12-minute games. How the rosters are divided has not yet been announced.
Antetokounmpo earns his 10th straight start. Brown is a five-time All-Star. Brunson makes it three in a row. Cunningham becomes the first Piston to start an All-Star Game since Allen Iverson in 2009, while Maxey earns his first starting nod.
Curry is now a 12-time All-Star. Doncic makes six. Gilgeous-Alexander starts again. Jokic keeps rolling. Wembanyama becomes the Spurs’ first starter since Kawhi Leonard.
And yes, Donovan Mitchell and LeBron James did not make the starting five. That will be part of the conversation until reserves are announced.
