Celtics

The Celtics are not being pushed to cut corners.

Sources tell Brett Siegel of Clutch Points that ownership has not applied pressure on president of basketball operations Brad Stevens to reduce the luxury tax bill ahead of the deadline. That has allowed the Celtics to remain selective rather than reactive.

Anfernee Simons continues to be viewed around the league as a potential trade chip, particularly if Boston can identify a meaningful frontcourt upgrade. That said, there is no urgency.

Simons has played well in his first season with the Celtics, and the team has exceeded most outside expectations. Unless a clear upgrade presents itself, Boston appears comfortable standing pat.

76ers

The Sixers are listening on Andre Drummond.

The veteran center is on an expiring $5 million contract, and moving him would drop the Sixers below the luxury tax after the variance credit created by Paul George’s suspension.

Drummond remains productive in limited minutes, and Siegel reports the Rockets have registered some interest.

Houston recently lost Steven Adams for the season following ankle surgery, making additional depth at center a practical need rather than a luxury.

Spurs

The big man market is reportedly on the Spurs’ radar.

Of the players the Magic have made available in an effort to dip below the tax, Goga Bitadze has drawn the most interest, according to Siegel.

The Spurs are among the teams intrigued by the 26-year-old center, who has also been linked to the Raptors and Knicks.

Another name to watch is Robert Williams of the Trail Blazers. Siegel adds that injured Blazers wing Matisse Thybulle could become a buyout candidate if he is not moved by Thursday.

For the Spurs, this appears to be about depth and optionality, not a splash.
