Despite some buzz, Celtics star Jayson Tatum says he has not decided whether he will play this season.
That came straight from Tatum himself, as relayed by Ramona Shelburne during an NBA on ESPN segment. No timetable. No commitment. No internal pressure from the Boston Celtics, either.
Tatum is still working his way back from a torn Achilles suffered during last year’s playoffs, and the organization is treating this as a long-term situation, not a sprint to the finish line.
Still, the internet needed a date.
According to Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com, a schedule note ignited the latest wave. Boston’s March 1 home game against the 76ers was flexed from six to 8 p.m. and picked up by NBC. That was enough for some to connect dots that may not exist.
Medical voices continue to urge caution.
MassLive’s Souichi Terada spoke with Dr. George Theodore of Massachusetts General Hospital, who called Achilles injuries devastating, unpredictable, and often accompanied by long physical and mental hurdles. Trusting the body again can take as long as the rehab itself.
So the Celtics are signaling patience. Tatum is signaling honesty. Everything else is noise.
