D’Angelo Russell may not be with the Grizzlies much longer, but one veteran NBA scout believes he could still help the right team.

According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the scout would take Russell over fellow veteran guards Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook if the Heat are looking to add another backcourt piece.

“He’s still good,” the scout said, while acknowledging Russell’s defensive shortcomings and reputation for wearing out his welcome.

Russell remains on the Grizzlies’ roster for now, though league-wide expectations continue to be that he’ll eventually be traded, bought out, or waived before the season begins.

Nets

Brooklyn finally made the Moritz Wagner signing official after nearly a month of waiting.

As Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron explained, Wagner delayed signing his two-year, $19 million contract while the Nets explored ways to use their remaining cap space elsewhere.

Nothing materialized, so Brooklyn moved forward with the deal. The Nets now have a full 15-man roster while still retaining some financial flexibility heading into the season.

Mavericks

The Mavericks didn’t just reshape their roster this offseason. They went global.

Keith Smith of Spotrac reported Dallas’ international-heavy offseason has drawn praise from rival talent evaluators, with one overseas scout crediting general manager Mike Schmitz for identifying value around the world.

The scout singled out newcomers Santi Aldama, Sergio de Larrea, Tarik Biberovic and Zaccharie Risacher, while suggesting late addition Vsevolod Ishchenko could eventually become another steal.

Dallas also believes a fresh start could help Risacher regain the form that made him the No. 1 overall pick just two years ago.
