Kevin Durant should feel at least a little satisfied in knowing the Nets are trying to honor his trade request.
After all, they’ve explored a Durant trade with everyone. At least, that’s the word from Shams Charania of The Athletic, who reported the Nets have spoken to each of the NBA’s other 29 teams about a potential Durant deal.
That said, it doesn’t appear that the Nets are close on anything. All we seem to know is Durant still wants to be traded, as Charania reported the superstar reiterated his trade request in a meeting with Nets owner Joe Tsai.
Or more accurately, Durant gave Tsai an ultimatum — get rid of coach Steve Nash and GM Sean Marks, or trade him. This is extremely interesting in the sense that it is Marks who has been seeking a deal.
With Durant reportedly wanting Marks out of the picture, you can’t help but wonder if Marks’ attempts will change. Namely, perhaps Marks won’t be so big on helping Durant land in one of his so-called “preferred” destinations.
Along with the Suns and Heat, the Celtics may suddenly also be high on Durant’s list. As we relayed, the Celtics and Nets have discussed a deal that would involve Boston star Jaylen Brown.
Meanwhile, the Suns reportedly have no interest unless the Nets lower their asking price, and the Heat are busy working on trying to acquire more draft picks that they could throw into a deal, per reports.
Charania added that the Raptors are also viewed as a “significant candidate” to land Durant in a trade.
Durant has four years left on his contract — and turns 34 in September. There are a lot of things working both for and against the Nets. But again, rival teams seem to feel the Nets need to drop their asking price.
