The Rockets have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent center Willie Cauley-Stein, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
While details weren’t revealed, it appears Cauley-Stein will be receiving a nonguaranteed deal that is contingent on him making the team. He will need to compete for a spot in training camp, per Charania.
Cauley-Stein, 28, is 7-foot-0 and signed a multiyear deal with the Mavericks in December, only to be waived a month later after appearing in 20 games. He signed a 10-day contract with the 76ers in February but was let go in March.
Overall, he appeared in 20 games last season, including 18 with the Mavs. The No. 6 overall pick in 2015, he has also spent time with the Kings and Warriors, compiling career averages of 8.7 points and 5.9 rebounds.
The Rockets are looking for help in the middle after sending center Christian Wood to the Mavs in a multi-player deal at the end of the season.
