The Cavaliers’ injury report continues to grow.

Guard Keon Ellis has been diagnosed with a non-displaced volar plate avulsion of his left index finger. The team initially referred to it as a “solar plate” injury before issuing a correction clarifying the proper medical term.

Ellis will undergo treatment and continued evaluation and is listed as questionable, considered day-to-day. That’s similar to James Harden, who is dealing with a thumb fracture.

A volar plate avulsion typically occurs when a finger is forcefully hyperextended — what many players casually describe as a “jammed finger.”

In some cases, the injury can require surgery if instability persists, though no such decision has been announced.

Ellis was acquired from Sacramento at the trade deadline along with Dennis Schroder and was expected to see an expanded role with Harden sidelined. His availability now becomes another variable for a Cavs team that had been building momentum before injuries interrupted its rhythm.

There is at least one positive development. Max Strus recently participated in his first contact practice since his foot injury, signaling progress toward a return.
