Westbrook and Kings
Say what you want about Russell Westbrook. With the Kings, he’s been steady.
Per Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, there’s no real momentum toward a buyout. Westbrook has embraced his role with Sacramento, earning respect in the locker room and providing leadership for a young roster.
For the first time in a while, he’s with a team that values what he brings.
Would he consider a playoff team if one called? Sure. But there’s no indication a contender is lining up. And there’s no guarantee he’d have a market if waived.
If anything, a return to Sacramento next season wouldn’t be surprising.
Ball’s next move?
Lonzo Ball remains unsigned.
After the Jazz waived him, the Warriors and Nuggets reportedly expressed interest, as also noted by Siegel. But medical concerns — specifically surrounding his knee — halted any movement.
Ball played 35 games with the Cavaliers earlier this season, but league personnel remain cautious. Nothing is imminent.
If he doesn’t land somewhere late, an overseas route could become part of the conversation, Siegel suggested.
Russell still waits
D’Angelo Russell’s situation looked murky at first. Now? Less so.
Siegel reports there hasn’t been meaningful interest elsewhere, and the Wizards have not even officially waived him.
Russell recently changed his jersey number, a small but telling sign he may finish the season with Washington.
He holds a nearly $6 million player option for next season. Unless a playoff team emerges suddenly, this may simply play out quietly.
