The Cavaliers are getting healthier, but Jarrett Allen remains the biggest question mark heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Boston Celtics.
Allen did not participate in team drills during Saturday’s practice and instead completed only a light individual workout due to lingering soreness in his right knee, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.
The injury stems from a knee-to-knee collision during Tuesday’s 113-109 win over the Detroit Pistons.
Coach Kenny Atkinson initially described the issue as simple contact.
“He got a knee-to-knee (hit),” Atkinson said earlier in the week.
Allen left that game midway through the third quarter while battling for a rebound. Still, the center downplayed concerns afterward.
“I’ll be all right,” he told the Associated Press.
The Cavs hope that proves true soon.
Allen has been in the midst of arguably the best stretch of his career. Since the start of February, he has averaged 21 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting a remarkable 72 percent from the field.
Meanwhile, several other Cavaliers appear closer to returning. Donovan Mitchell (groin), Dean Wade (ankle) and Max Strus (foot) all practiced this weekend as Cleveland begins to round back into shape.
The Cavs enter Sunday’s game at 39-24 and fourth in the Eastern Conference standings, three games behind the Celtics for second.
