Collin Sexton is not wasting his latest shot.
For instance, the veteran guard logged 38 minutes Thursday night and delivered 30 points as the Chicago Bulls pulled off a surprising road win over the Phoenix Suns.
It marked Sexton’s most notable performance since arriving in Chicago last month, as he has quickly been given a prominent role in the backcourt.
“Definitely very appreciative,” Sexton said, via Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “At the end of the day, I always take one day at a time. Just focus on the now. I appreciate the team and the organization trusting me with the ball down the stretch.”
Sexton is playing on an expiring contract worth nearly $19 million, which leaves his long-term future with Chicago uncertain.
But today, the focus remains simple — win games and continue building trust with coach Billy Donovan.
Sexton also made it clear he appreciates Donovan’s leadership during a difficult personal stretch for the coach, who recently lost both his father and mother-in-law.
“I appreciate Coach,” Sexton said. “He’s been going through a lot. My family has been praying for him. For him to come out every day with a smile and encourage us, that means a lot.”
The Bulls may be looking toward the future. Sexton, meanwhile, is focused on the present.
