Wizards
Trae Young admitted he felt some nerves before his debut with the Wizards. He didn’t show it.
Young scored on Washington’s first possession Thursday and finished with 12 points, six assists, two steals and a plus-four rating in 19 minutes during his first game in more than two months.
“Going to a new city and a new place, I’m living in the moment,” Young said, via Josh Robbins of The Athletic. “I’m just joyful and happy that I’m here.”
Rookie Julian Reese also delivered a breakout performance with 18 points and 20 rebounds, the highest single-game rebounding total by a rookie this season.
“Being thrown into the fire like he has, it’s been great to see,” Young said, via Robbins.
Pistons
The Pistons let one slip away. Detroit blew a 23-point lead and fell to the Nets, marking the Pistons’ third straight loss.
Coach J.B. Bickerstaff said his team lost focus.
“You disrespect the game and it’s going to bite you,” he said, via The Athletic’s Hunter Patterson. “That’s what happened to us.”
Backup center Isaiah Stewart agreed.
“All of us have to look ourselves in the mirror,” Stewart said.
Magic
Tristan Da Silva continues to emerge for the Orlando Magic.
The second-year forward has averaged 12.1 points since the All-Star break and added 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists in Saturday’s win over the Timberwolves.
Coach Jamahl Mosley praised Da Silva’s ability to adjust to changing roles.
“It says something about him as a professional,” Mosley said, per Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel. “He just plays his part.”
