Former Mavericks principal owner Mark Cuban has one big regret from his final years running the franchise.
Namely, hiring Nico Harrison as general manager.
Cuban was asked on The Adam Friedland Show if he regretted the hire.
“Yeah, it was a mistake,” Cuban answered.
Harrison, of course, is the man who traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers last season. Cuban was no longer the controlling owner at the time and was not consulted on the deal.
Dallas eventually fired Harrison in November, naming Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi as co-interim general managers.
The trade itself never really worked out for the Mavericks. Anthony Davis played just 29 games in Dallas before being moved again at the trade deadline, this time to the Wizards.
Doncic, meanwhile, landed in Los Angeles and signed a three-year, $165 million extension in August. He currently leads the NBA in scoring and has helped push the Lakers into the top tier of the Western Conference alongside LeBron James and Austin Reaves.
The Mavericks did get one bit of good fortune. Dallas won the 2025 draft lottery and selected Cooper Flagg, who already looks like a future star.
Still, around Dallas, the Doncic deal remains the move that changed everything.
