Former Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome is starting to find a groove with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Jerome scored 21 points Friday against the Detroit Pistons and continues to be a steady offensive presence since returning from injury.
The 27-year-old signed a three-year deal with Memphis during the offseason but missed much of the year because of a calf strain. Since getting back on the floor, though, he has made an impact.
In 12 games, Jerome is averaging 20.1 points and 5.4 assists while taking on a major playmaking role in the Grizzlies’ offense.
Coach Tuomas Iisalo said Jerome’s ability to create shots for himself and teammates has stood out.
“Ty’s been very solid for us the whole time,” Iisalo said. “He’s turning into one of the premier creators in the whole league.”
Opponents have tried to slow him with size and physicality, particularly in pick-and-roll coverage, but the results have been mixed.
“They tried to get the ball out of his hands,” Iisalo said. “But somehow he always finds a way.”
