Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has been in the NBA for a long time now. That we know. Retirement, though, is not something he’s thinking about just yet.

Speaking with Marcus Thompson of The Athletic on The Athletic Show, Curry said his body will ultimately tell him when it’s time to walk away.

“I think your body is the first point of information,” he said, via Nick Friedell. “Just what it takes to get ready for a game is a lot different now than it was a decade ago.”

Still, Curry said the love of playing remains strong.

“When I’m out there on the court right now, I still get lost in the fun,” he said. “It’s still my happy place. All the work is worth it because I get to go out there and hoop at the highest level.”

Curry, 38, added that the competition and the pursuit of something meaningful continue to drive him.

“The competition, the camaraderie, the chasing something that matters,” he said. “That still gets me going. And I don’t see that stopping anytime soon.”

Curry also joked that one of his favorite compliments comes from defenders who grow tired of chasing him around the court.

“Somebody will be guarding me at a free throw and say, ‘Yo, stop moving so much,’” he said. “I always kind of took pride in that.”

His father, former NBA guard Dell Curry, offered a simple philosophy that guided his own career.

“Play as long as you can,” Dell said. “Then play one more year.”
