NBA commissioner Adam Silver says it’s too early to determine whether T-Mobile Arena could serve as the home for a potential NBA team in Las Vegas.
But it’s on the list.
“It’s a fantastic facility,” Silver told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “But I think that will be part of our process.”
The league is formally evaluating Las Vegas alongside Seattle as its two primary expansion markets, with a decision expected by the end of the year.
No guarantees yet, but momentum is building.
Expansion fees are projected to land in the $7 billion to $10 billion range, and interest is already forming. A group led by Magic Johnson has met with Nevada governor Joe Lombardo to discuss a potential bid. Bill Foley, owner of the NHL’s Golden Knights, has also expressed interest and pledged $300 million in renovations to T-Mobile Arena if his group is selected.
Still, there are questions, including whether T-Mobile could serve as a temporary home if a new arena is required.
“I think it’s premature at this time,” Silver said.
What Las Vegas does have is appeal.
“It’s very much a global city,” Silver said, noting that NBA ownership groups often extend beyond local ties.
