Timberwolves
The Timberwolves could be getting Anthony Edwards back, and soon.
Edwards is expected to go through a workout Sunday and shootaround Monday, with “all signs” pointing toward a return against the Mavericks after missing six games with a knee issue, per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
His teammates know what that means.
“We can’t relax now that Ant’s coming back and say, ‘Hey, give Ant the keys and just go,’” Mike Conley said. “Let Ant do his thing. But continue to push the ball, continue to involve everybody.”
Minnesota has found a rhythm, and the message is clear — keep it.
There’s also something else at play. Edwards would need to appear in each of the team’s final eight games to meet the 65-game threshold for end-of-season awards.
Hawks
The Hawks keep rolling. So does coach Quin Snyder.
Snyder picked up his 500th career win as Atlanta notched its 15th victory in 17 games, continuing a strong push in the Eastern Conference race.
“It was special,” Snyder said, via The Associated Press. “You realize that coaches, they keep your record, but it’s really the players… I’ve been lucky to coach really good players and really quality people.”
The respect goes both ways.
“Quin’s incredible, honestly,” big man Jock Landale said. “He’s been instrumental in getting me up to speed… a great coach to play for.”
Atlanta sits at 42-33 and firmly in the Eastern mix.
Hornets
The Hornets had been on a tear. Then came the fourth quarter.
Charlotte entered Saturday having won five straight and 23 of 29, but a cold finish against the 76ers flipped things late.
Coach Charles Lee didn’t like what he saw.
“Our shot-making can’t affect our defense,” Lee said, via Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer. “I thought it did… too many back doors, too many offensive rebounds, especially in clutch moments.”
That stood out. Charlotte had been playing with pace and movement during its surge. That slipped late and so did the result.
