The Pistons may be getting their franchise player back just in time for the postseason.
Star guard Cade Cunningham has been upgraded to doubtful for Monday’s game at Orlando, per the NBA injury report, signaling that his return could come before the end of the regular season.

Cunningham has been sidelined since March 17 after suffering a collapsed lung while diving for a loose ball against Washington.
Although the injury will prevent him from meeting the 65-game threshold for postseason awards, Detroit’s priority is getting him ready for the playoffs. With just four regular-season games remaining and the No. 1 seed in the East already secured, the Pistons appear focused on easing him back into action.
A return by the regular-season finale is considered likely.
Cunningham has averaged 24.5 points, 9.9 assists and 5.6 rebounds this season, and Detroit has continued to win in his absence, going 8-2 since the injury.
In a related development, reserve big man Isaiah Stewart has also been upgraded to doubtful after missing time with a left calf strain.
