Keon Johnson’s latest stay on an NBA roster lasted about one day. He also had plenty of company on the waiver wire.
The Hawks waived Johnson on Thursday after signing him Wednesday, according to the NBA’s official transaction log. The move was likely procedural, with Johnson expected to join the College Park Skyhawks in the G League.
Johnson was among 12 players waived around the league Thursday. The Pistons released Jordan Riley. The Timberwolves waived Payton Sandfort and Nate Santos. The Trail Blazers moved on from Keylan Boone, Barry Dunning and Mark Sears, while the Spurs released Miles Barnstable.
The Jazz waived Ibrahima Diallo and Justin Harmon. Johni Broome was released by the Clippers, and the Raptors waived AJ Hoggard.
Most, if not all, were signed to Exhibit 10 contracts. That allows each player to collect a bonus worth as much as $91,000 if he reports to the organization’s G League affiliate and remains there for at least 60 days.
Johnson is the most recognizable name. The 2021 first-round pick previously played for the Clippers, Trail Blazers and Nets before spending last season with the Maine Celtics.
Sandfort and Sears also have NBA experience after appearing on two-way contracts with the Thunder and Bucks last season.
