The NBA and players’ union are discussing a return of high schoolers being allowed to enter the draft, but for now, the league wants agents to share medicals as part of the “one-and-done” rule, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
It seems the league wants agents for players to provide medical information and physicals to all 30 teams as part of the draft process, Wojnrowski relayed.
That’s different from today’s rules, which gives agents the right to share such info with teams of their choosing — effectively steering prospects away from the teams for which prospects supposedly don’t want to play.
Wojnarowski reported that those talks have yet to take place, as the league and players have just begun conversations on a new collective bargaining agreement, as we relayed here.
“Also, if the one-and-done rule is changed, the expected starting date will likely be several years into the future,” RealGM wrote. “The first year where high school players are allowed to enter the NBA directly will essentially create a double draft.”
