The Cavaliers quickly tried to forget all about Game 6 on Friday night.
After a 112-110 overtime loss in Toronto that ended with a high-bouncing three from Raptors wing RJ Barrett, the focus shifted to Sunday.
Home court. One game. That is it.
“The first thing I said when we came in here, we’ve just got to protect home court,” Donovan Mitchell said. “If I sit here and continue to sulk about that shot, then we’re not preparing for what’s coming forward.”
That’s the message.
The Cavs had no business letting Game 6 get away. Toronto was without key pieces and still controlled much of the night before Cleveland rallied late. Even then, the Cavs held leads in overtime and could not close.
Turnovers played a role. So did uneven play from the top.
“I don’t think Donovan, offensively, played well. I didn’t play well,” James Harden said. “I think for us, it’s doing the things that’s necessary for us to win.”
There was also frustration late, including a sequence where Evan Mobley believed a call was missed before the deciding shot.
He is not carrying that forward.
“We’ve got one game that we’ve got to win, and it’s at home,” Mobley said.
History favors Cleveland. The home team has won every game in the series.
None of that matters now unless the Cavs finish it.
