Thunder not expected to pursue Giannis; linked to Cavs’ Evan Mobley

The Thunder’s season ended Saturday with a Game 7 loss to the Spurs.

Now comes the inevitable question: What’s next?

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, league sources continue to indicate Oklahoma City is not expected to pursue Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo despite fresh speculation that could emerge following the Thunder’s elimination.

Instead, one intriguing name surfaced in Amick’s reporting.

Amick wrote that he has heard “chatter” for some time about Oklahoma City’s interest in Cavaliers big man Evan Mobley.

Exactly what that means remains unclear. Cavs president of basketball operations Koby Altman recently referred to Mobley as “part of our future” and Cleveland has consistently signaled its desire to keep the 24-year-old cornerstone.

Still, the mention is notable.

Mobley just completed another strong season and remains one of the league’s premier young two-way players. He has frequently been mentioned in hypothetical trade scenarios involving Antetokounmpo, though multiple reports have suggested Cleveland is unlikely to pursue that path.

The Thunder enter the offseason facing questions of their own after seeing their bid to repeat as NBA champions come to an end against San Antonio.

Oklahoma City captured the 2025 NBA title and returned to the Western Conference finals this season, but struggled to find answers for Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.

Despite the disappointing finish, a dramatic shakeup would be surprising.

The Thunder still possess one of the league’s deepest young cores, along with a treasure chest of future draft assets.

Whether any of those assets are ever directed toward a player like Mobley remains to be seen.
