The Cavaliers continue to be mentioned whenever trade speculation surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo surfaces.
That doesn’t mean they intend to get involved.
According to Jake Fischer and Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Cavs should be viewed as an unlikely participant in any pursuit of the Bucks superstar if Milwaukee ultimately decides to explore trade options.

A major reason is uncertainty about Antetokounmpo’s long-term future.
The two-time MVP can become a free agent as early as the summer of 2027, and Fischer and Stein report that concerns about whether he would commit to Cleveland beyond the short term are expected to keep the Cavs on the sidelines.
Recent speculation has centered on the possibility of Cleveland building a package around Evan Mobley. However, multiple reports have suggested the Cavs have little interest in such a deal.
That stance was reinforced by president of basketball operations Koby Altman during his season-ending press conference.
Asked about Mobley’s future, Altman described him as “part of our future” and later called him a “franchise-caliber player.”
Fischer and Stein add that Cavs officials continue to view Mobley as a cornerstone piece and an important bridge to the franchise’s future beyond Donovan Mitchell‘s prime.
The report also notes that Cleveland’s front office remains mindful of how difficult life became following LeBron James‘ departures in 2010 and 2018. As a result, the Cavs are believed to be reluctant to move a young foundational player unless the return is viewed as a true long-term certainty.
That’s not to say the Cavs won’t explore ways to improve. It just doesn’t sound like they are eager to sacrifice their future to do it. At least, not at this very moment.
