The Thunder may have fallen one win short of the NBA Finals, but they remain one of the league’s most fascinating teams entering the offseason.
With a mountain of draft assets and several key financial decisions on the horizon, Oklahoma City has no shortage of options.
Here’s some of the latest buzz surrounding the franchise:

Thunder exploring move up draft board
The Thunder have already begun investigating ways to move up in this month’s draft.
According to ESPN, Oklahoma City has held exploratory conversations with teams drafting inside the top 10 to gauge the cost of a potential trade.
The Thunder currently own the No. 12, No. 17 and No. 37 picks, along with one of the league’s deepest collections of future draft assets.
Whether they actually make a move could depend on how the board falls on draft night and whether a specific target remains available.
Still, league sources indicate the front office is simply doing its homework.
Financial reckoning approaching
While Oklahoma City’s roster remains relatively manageable today, league observers continue to point toward the summer of 2027 as the organization’s biggest financial challenge.
That’s when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander‘s expected supermax contract would begin, increasing his salary significantly and creating additional pressure on the payroll.
The Thunder have already handed out several major contracts and still have other young players approaching extension eligibility.
It’s one reason rival executives continue to wonder whether Oklahoma City will eventually be forced to make difficult decisions involving its depth.
Joe, Wiggins among names to watch
If the Thunder decide to create additional flexibility, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins could emerge as trade candidates.
According to ESPN, both players are viewed as potential roster pieces that could be moved if Oklahoma City looks to trim future salary commitments.
The two combined to play important rotation roles during the regular season but saw their opportunities decrease during portions of the playoffs.
Neither player is believed to be untouchable.
Williams’ future uncertain
Another name to monitor is veteran forward Kenrich Williams.
ESPN reports that rival executives expect the Thunder to decline Williams’ $7.2 million team option for next season.
That doesn’t necessarily mean his time in Oklahoma City is over.
Williams has long been respected within the organization, and a return on a smaller contract remains possible.
Bottom line? The Thunder appear focused on balancing two goals — competing for championships today while maintaining the flexibility needed to keep their championship window open for years to come.
