NBA players open their own offseason training facility in Los Angeles

NBA players have gathered in Los Angeles for offseason workouts and pickup runs for years. Now they have a place designed specifically for them.

The National Basketball Players Association has opened a player-owned performance center as part of the launch of PLYRS UNTD, as relayed by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

The facility was designed exclusively for NBA players, with direct input from Chet Holmgren, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Fred VanVleet and members of the NBPA Executive Committee.

In other words, the players helped decide what the players actually need.

The center includes two full-sized basketball courts, a fully equipped athletic training room and a premium weight room featuring equipment selected by NBA players.

There are also indoor and outdoor turf areas, along with a sauna, steam room, massage therapy room, meditation pod and dry-floating recovery services.

Players will have access to an onsite culinary program offering pre- and post-workout meals, along with nutrition education. The building also includes conference rooms and a family room.

PLYRS UNTD plans to host organized offseason runs at the facility twice a week.

Los Angeles has long served as one of the NBA’s unofficial offseason headquarters. Players from around the league routinely spend their summers there, working out individually and participating in private pickup games.

Now they have a facility designed specifically for them, and one operating independently of any NBA franchise. That may be the most notable part.
