Longtime Indiana basketball reporter Scott Agness says the WNBA’s Fever have revoked his credentialed access following a report involving Caitlin Clark‘s injury status.
Agness, who operates the Fieldhouse Files newsletter and has covered both the Pacers and Fever for years, detailed the situation in a post Tuesday. He said the Fever informed him that his credentials were being revoked due to what the organization described as “the spread of inaccurate and unsubstantiated information.”
According to Agness, the dispute stems from a report he published after Clark was ruled out shortly before a May 20 game against the Portland Fire. Agness reported that Clark’s absence was part of a “strategic management plan” and said there was no significant new injury concern.
He later updated the story to include comments from Fever coach Stephanie White, who said Clark was healthy and that the team was simply being cautious with a back issue.
Agness said he stood by his reporting and told the organization the information came from a trusted league source.
The situation has since drawn attention from media members around the WNBA. As relayed by Front Office Sports, the Professional Basketball Writers Association’s WNBA chapter issued a statement criticizing the decision.
“The PBWA objects in the strongest possible terms to any reporter losing access for the act of reporting,” the statement said.
Agness also revealed that his relationship with Pacers Sports & Entertainment, which owns both the Pacers and Fever, has been strained for some time. He said his Pacers access was restricted beginning in 2024 and remains unresolved.
Despite the credential dispute, Agness said he plans to continue covering both teams.
“This is my livelihood,” he wrote. “I remain committed to covering the Fever, the Pacers and professional basketball in Indiana with the same standards I always have.”
