Raptors extend GM Bobby Webster, add executive VP title

The Raptors are keeping Bobby Webster in charge of basketball operations for the foreseeable future.

Toronto announced that Webster has signed a multiyear contract extension and has been promoted to executive vice president in addition to his duties as general manager.

Webster, 41, is entering his 10th season as the Raptors’ general manager and took full control of the franchise’s front office last summer following the departure of longtime president Masai Ujiri.

“We’re building something special here, and I’m proud to continue to lead the Toronto Raptors as we work towards our next championship,” Webster said in a statement. “This is a franchise that’s focused on the future, and we’re ready for what’s next.”

The extension comes after Toronto returned to the playoffs for the first time in four years.

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment CEO Keith Pelley praised Webster’s leadership and vision.

“Bobby has an elite understanding of the game and the NBA,” Pelley said. “We’ve seen the results, and we believe in where his leadership will take us.”

The Raptors also announced extensions for vice president of player personnel and assistant general manager Dan Tolzman, vice president of basketball strategy and research Keith Boyarsky, and vice president of operations Tyla Flexman.

Head coach Darko Rajakovic could be next in line for a contract extension, sources told Hoops Wire. Rajakovic has one year remaining on his current deal.
