NBA Rumors: Heat, Celtics, Wolves among teams linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade saga continues to gain steam as the NBA Draft approaches.

According to Sam Amick and Eric Nehm of The Athletic (via Hoops Rumors’ Arthur Hill), the Bucks are seeking additional clarity on what interested teams are willing to offer before making a final determination on whether to move their franchise cornerstone.

As Amick and Nehm reported, the Heat, Celtics, Timberwolves, Magic and Trail Blazers have all surfaced in varying degrees during league discussions.

Heat still viewed as strong contender

Per The Athletic, Miami continues to be viewed by many around the league as one of the leading candidates should Antetokounmpo become available.

Amick and Nehm reported that a potential Heat package could include Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., additional young assets and draft compensation.

The report also noted that Herro recently unfollowed the Heat on Instagram, fueling further speculation among fans and observers.

Celtics remain in conversation

Meanwhile, league sources told The Athletic that Boston continues to loom as a significant possibility.

According to the report, a Celtics package would likely center on Jaylen Brown, with Milwaukee potentially rerouting Brown elsewhere as part of a larger transaction designed to acquire younger players and draft assets.

Timberwolves emerge

The Timberwolves have also entered the discussion, according to Amick and Nehm.

The Athletic reported that Milwaukee has interest in aspects of Minnesota’s roster, though the Wolves are said to view Jaden McDaniels and young center Joan Beringer as players they would strongly prefer to keep.

Questions also remain about whether Antetokounmpo would commit long-term to Minnesota.

Clock is ticking

As we’ve written previously, several teams are believed to be waiting for clearer guidance from Milwaukee regarding what type of package the organization would seriously consider.

According to The Athletic, some clubs have even asked the Bucks to identify acceptable frameworks rather than continuing a prolonged back-and-forth negotiation process.

With the draft now less than two weeks away, the pressure to reach a resolution appears to be growing.

Whether that resolution results in a trade remains the biggest question of the NBA offseason.
