Jazz still sorting through choices at No. 2

The Jazz may own the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft, but that doesn’t mean they know exactly what they’re doing with it.

According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, Utah remains undecided as the draft approaches and is still evaluating several possibilities near the top of the board.

In other words, the Jazz have some thinking to do.

The names most frequently connected to Utah are AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer. All three are viewed as potential franchise cornerstones, and apparently, the Jazz see legitimate arguments for each.

That may be especially true depending on what happens one spot ahead of them.

The Wizards continue to do extensive homework on Dybantsa and Peterson as they weigh the No. 1 pick, leaving Utah in somewhat of a wait-and-see position.

Peterson has generated plenty of attention lately after reports surfaced that he does not plan to work out for the Jazz. That doesn’t appear to bother Utah much.

As Jones reported, the Jazz were neither surprised nor discouraged by the decision. They took a similar approach a year ago when Ace Bailey’s camp reportedly preferred another destination before Utah selected him anyway.

Meanwhile, Boozer remains firmly in the conversation despite questions about positional fit.

The Jazz already have a crowded frontcourt that includes Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr., while restricted free agent Walker Kessler is still viewed as a player they’d like to keep.

Yet league observers continue to believe Utah is very high on Boozer’s overall talent.

There has also been occasional speculation about the Jazz attempting to move up to No. 1 overall, particularly if they become convinced Dybantsa is the player they want. But for now, that appears unlikely.

So where does Utah stand? Somewhere between Dybantsa, Peterson and Boozer.

And with the draft just days away, the Jazz may still be sorting through all three.
