Latest on Giannis: Heat, Bucks, Pistons, Celtics, Clippers

The Giannis Antetokounmpo saga continues to feel like a game of poker.

And right now, the Bucks appear to know exactly what cards the Heat are holding.

According to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald, Milwaukee is well aware of Antetokounmpo’s desire to play in Miami. The belief is that the Bucks are using that knowledge to squeeze as much value as possible out of any potential deal.

In other words, if Miami wants Giannis, Milwaukee is going to make the Heat pay for it.

Jackson went so far as to suggest that Antetokounmpo could help Miami’s cause by publicly stating he would only sign an extension with the Heat. That would likely scare off some rival bidders and strengthen Miami’s negotiating position.

So far, neither Giannis nor his representatives have taken that route.

The reported framework of Miami’s offer continues to center on Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and draft assets. The Heat would obviously prefer not to add more young talent to the package if they can avoid it.

Meanwhile, the Pistons remain a team worth watching.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype confirmed previous reports that Detroit has interest in potentially acquiring Herro as part of a larger multi-team deal. If that scenario develops, players such as Isaiah Stewart, Ron Holland and Duncan Robinson could become part of the conversation.

As for the Celtics, the biggest question remains Jaylen Brown.

Boston has frequently been mentioned as a possible Giannis destination, and if the Celtics decide to put Brown on the table, Milwaukee may not be eager to move him elsewhere.

According to Scotto, the Bucks would consider keeping Brown rather than immediately flipping him in another trade. That’s not especially surprising. Brown is still in his prime and coming off another All-NBA season.

Then again, if Brown does become available, there would be no shortage of interest.

Scotto reported that the Clippers remain one team to watch. Los Angeles owns the No. 5 pick in next week’s draft and also controls an unprotected Pacers first-rounder in 2029.

One final note: Jackson reported that Orlando is not expected to pursue Antetokounmpo and plans to move forward with its current core.

Which brings us back to where this all started. The Heat want Giannis. Giannis reportedly wants Miami. The Bucks know it.

Now comes the hard part: Agreeing on a price.
