NBA Rumors: Magic, Anthony Black, Nuggets, Jazz

Magic

The Magic have a good problem. They also may eventually have an expensive one.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, rival teams are keeping an eye on Orlando’s long-term plans as Paolo Banchero‘s max extension gets ready to kick in.

The next decision could involve Anthony Black.

Black is eligible for a rookie-scale extension and is coming off a season in which he posted numbers similar to those of Jalen Suggs before Suggs landed his five-year, $150 million deal.

Whether Orlando signs Black to an extension or lets him play out the final year of his contract, there is a growing belief around the league that the Magic may eventually have to move one of their young core pieces.

That’s what happens when a team starts to become a contender. Eventually, everybody wants to get paid.

Nuggets

The Nuggets appear to be looking for ways to create some financial flexibility.

Scotto reported that Denver has been willing to discuss trade scenarios involving Zeke Nnaji and the No. 26 pick in this week’s draft.

Nnaji hasn’t been a regular part of the rotation for several years, making him an obvious trade candidate as the Nuggets prepare for upcoming roster decisions.

Peyton Watson is headed toward restricted free agency, and Denver is already facing a hefty payroll.

That’s why attaching a draft pick to Nnaji’s contract could make some sense if the Nuggets find a willing trade partner.

Jazz

Jusuf Nurkic‘s time in Utah may not be over.

According to Scotto, the Jazz have interest in bringing back the veteran center after an impressive first season with the organization.

Nurkic averaged 10.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and a career-best 4.8 assists while providing a steady presence in the middle.

The 12-year veteran is now an unrestricted free agent, but based on Scotto’s report, there appears to be mutual interest in continuing the partnership.

Given the way Nurkic played after arriving in Utah, that’s not especially surprising.
