NBA Draft Rumors: Clippers, Nets, Mavericks, Daniel Gafford, Pelicans

Clippers/Nets

The top of Tuesday night’s NBA Draft is beginning to come into focus.

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Clippers are expected to keep the No. 5 overall pick and are likely choosing between Illinois guard Keaton Wagler and Louisville guard Mikel Brown.

Despite months of speculation that Los Angeles could trade the selection for veteran help, Siegel reported there was little indication over the weekend that the Clippers were actively pursuing that route.

Brown appears to be a strong candidate to come off the board at either No. 5 or No. 6, with the Nets also believed to be high on him.

Brooklyn, meanwhile, has reportedly explored trade-down scenarios if Brown isn’t available. The Nets have also been linked to Tennessee forward Nate Ament, with multiple sources telling ClutchPoints the organization has genuine interest in the versatile prospect.

If Brooklyn ultimately passes on Wagler, Atlanta could become an intriguing landing spot at No. 8. Still, Siegel noted that several teams outside the top 10 would likely explore moving up if Wagler begins to slide.

Mavericks

The Mavericks remain one of the more active teams on the trade front.

According to Siegel, Dallas has spent the past week exploring deals involving center Daniel Gafford and the No. 30 overall pick in an effort to move higher in the draft.

The Raptors and Hornets have been mentioned as potential trade partners.

As for possible targets, guards Cameron Carr and Labaron Philon are among the names reportedly generating interest from the Mavericks.

Pelicans

The Pelicans continue searching for a path into the lottery.

According to Siegel, New Orleans has discussed potential trade scenarios with several teams, including the Warriors, Mavericks, Thunder and Hornets.

One name that continues to surface in those conversations is Trey Murphy III.

However, the Pelicans reportedly remain reluctant to move Murphy unless they’re overwhelmed by an offer.

If New Orleans does succeed in acquiring a lottery pick, Ament and Carr are believed to be among the prospects high on the organization’s board.
