The Giannis Antetokounmpo era in Milwaukee is officially over.
The Bucks finalized their blockbuster trade with the Heat on Monday after the NBA’s moratorium was lifted, allowing both organizations to formally complete the deal that had been agreed to nearly two weeks ago.

Milwaukee also sent veteran forward Bobby Portis to Miami in the trade, receiving Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, the No. 13 pick in this year’s draft, two future first-round selections, a pick swap and a second-round pick.
With the move now official, the Bucks were finally able to publicly thank the player who transformed the franchise.
“From delivering a championship to transforming our franchise, Giannis’ impact on the Milwaukee Bucks is lasting and profound,” the team’s ownership group said in a statement. “Though this chapter has come to an end, Giannis’ legacy in Milwaukee is secure. Forever a Buck.”
General manager Jon Horst also released a letter to Bucks fans, calling the trade “in the best interest of both the Bucks and Giannis.”
Antetokounmpo spent 13 seasons in Milwaukee after being selected 15th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft. He won two MVP awards, led the Bucks to the 2021 NBA championship and established himself as one of the greatest players in franchise history.
The trade itself had been expected since late June, but league rules prevented it from becoming official until Monday.
Now, both teams move forward.
The Heat get the superstar they’ve chased for years and immediately become one of the Eastern Conference’s biggest threats alongside Bam Adebayo.
The Bucks begin a new era built around youth, draft capital and roster flexibility after one of the most successful stretches in franchise history.
