The Lakers have added another veteran to their revamped frontcourt.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Los Angeles has agreed to a one-year contract with free agent center Kevon Looney. Charania reported the deal is worth $3.9 million.

Looney spent last season with the Pelicans after a decade in Golden State, though his role was limited as New Orleans shifted its focus toward developing younger big men. He appeared in just 21 games, averaging 2.8 points and 5.6 rebounds before the Pelicans declined their team option for next season.
Even with limited playing time, Looney remained an intriguing option on the free-agent market.
The 30-year-old built a reputation with the Warriors as one of the league’s better rebounders and screen setters, while also earning praise for his leadership and professionalism. According to previous reports, the Knicks and Celtics also expressed interest before addressing the position elsewhere.
The signing continues a significant offseason makeover at center for the Lakers.
Walker Kessler is expected to become the new starter after arriving from Utah, while Deandre Ayton has been traded to the Wizards and Jaxson Hayes departed in free agency. Looney now projects as an experienced backup capable of providing depth, rebounding and a veteran presence behind Kessler.
The move also gives Los Angeles another dependable frontcourt option as it continues reshaping the roster around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
