NBA Rumors: Wizards, roster spot, Nuggets, Cam Johnson, Hawks

Wizards

The Wizards’ busy offseason may have one more move left in it.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Washington is hoping to add a backup point guard after an eventful summer that included drafting AJ Dybantsa, signing Trae Young to the richest free-agent contract of 2026, and acquiring veterans Deandre Ayton and Khris Middleton.

The roster currently sits at 14 standard contracts, leaving room for one more addition.

Among the veteran point guards still available in free agency are Brandon Williams, Gabe Vincent, Cameron Payne, Aaron Holiday and Cole Anthony.

Russell Westbrook had previously been linked to a possible return to Washington, but NBA insider Jake Fischer recently suggested he isn’t expecting that reunion to happen.

The Wizards also reportedly plan to begin extension talks with Anthony Davis once he becomes eligible for a new contract on Aug. 6.

Nuggets

Multiple teams have checked in on Cameron Johnson. So far, they’ve all received the same answer.

Scotto reported the Nuggets have continued turning away trade inquiries involving the veteran forward despite ongoing interest from around the league.

Johnson was viewed by many as a logical trade candidate entering the offseason because of Denver’s salary situation, but the Nuggets have shown little interest in moving him.

That stance appears unchanged as the offseason rolls on, suggesting Denver still views Johnson as an important part of its rotation despite the financial challenges.

Hawks

The Hawks aren’t just thinking about the upcoming season. They’re already looking beyond it.

According to Scotto, Atlanta would like to keep Luguentz Dort beyond the 2026-27 campaign after acquiring the defensive-minded wing from the Thunder last week.

Before landing in Atlanta, Dort also drew interest from the Lakers, Heat, Raptors and Nets, league sources told HoopsHype.

Dort is eligible for unrestricted free agency next summer, but the Hawks reportedly hope he’ll remain part of what they clearly believe is an improving young-ish core.
