Despite a roster that features the likes of star forward Kevin Durant and point guard Kyrie Irving, and playing in the NBA’s largest market, the Nets are last in the NBA in season-ticket sales, per Josh Kosman and Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
The Nets, owned by Joe Tsai, have sold “roughly 5,500” season tickets, Kosman and Lewis reported, down from between 8,000 and 9,000 last season.
One source indicated the decline in season-tickets aren’t a major issue, however, as the Nets rely “less on those sales to fill the Barclays Center than teams in other markets,” per Kosman and Lewis.
“They do not focus on season tickets as much as others because they believe they can make more on same-day tickets,” another source said, via Kosman and Lewis. “But it is still core to their business and represents most ticket sales.”
As an aside, the Nets and Barclays center were already facing an uphill financial climb, after losing between $50 and $100 million last season, Kosman and Lewis wrote.
