Dennis Schroder has now been traded nine times, second-most in NBA history

Dennis Schroder is on the move again, and at this point, that sentence is becoming part of NBA history.

The Cavaliers traded Schroder and cash to the Hornets for Tre Mann on Friday, marking the ninth time Schroder has been traded during his career. As relayed by Sam Quinn of CBS Sports, that’s the second-most trades involving one player in league history.

Only Trevor Ariza, who was traded 11 times, has been moved more.

That’s quite a journey for Schroder, 32, who entered the NBA with Atlanta in 2013 and has since become one of the league’s great basketball nomads. Charlotte will become the 12th franchise he has actually played for (assuming he appears in a game for the Hornets).

Schroder has suited up for the Hawks, Thunder, Lakers, Celtics, Rockets, Raptors, Nets, Warriors, Pistons, Kings and Cavs. He had two separate stints with the Lakers.

The Cavs acquired Schroder last season and ultimately decided the financial flexibility was more valuable than keeping him around. By exchanging his $14.8 million salary for Mann’s $8 million deal, they created roughly another $6.8 million in breathing room.

Charlotte, meanwhile, gets a veteran point guard with connections to Hornets president Jeff Peterson and coach Charles Lee dating to their days in Atlanta.

So there are basketball and financial reasons for the trade. But there’s also this: nine trades. Two more and Schroder catches Ariza.

At this rate, you probably shouldn’t bet against him.
