While a lot of talk lately has suggested the Warriors may be looking to trade forward Draymond Green, it seems as if they fully intend to hang on to him — at least for the time being.
It’s extremely early, but the defending NBA champions have struggled mightily, dropping to 3-6 after Thursday’s road loss to the Magic.
Green, of course, came under fire and received a fine after punching shooting guard Jordan Poole at practice before the season. At the time, it seemed as if they had had enough of his occasional antics.
But he can also be the glue that keeps things together on the court.
Along with the altercation involving Poole, Green can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He has said publicly that he doesn’t expect to receive an extension from the Warriors during the season.
So the idea that Green can walk for nothing over the summer has assisted in the worlld of NBA rumors.
For now, though, it appears to be just talk.
Truth is, the Warriors aren’t likely panicked and aren’t likely to do anything rash. When it comes to trading Green, all we know is they “don’t plan to as of now,” per ESPNs Zach Lowe .
Closer to the February trade deadline? Well, that may be another matter.
It truly does depend on what happens with the Warriors, Green and other teams between now and then.
