Wizards showed interest in Anthony Davis-Jalen Duren swap, but Pistons didn’t

The Wizards apparently have an idea for resolving the Jalen Duren mess.

The Pistons don’t seem particularly interested.

Washington has shown interest in a deal that would send Anthony Davis to Detroit in exchange for Duren, according to Hunter Patterson and Sam Amick of The Athletic⁠. League sources confirmed the Wizards’ interest, but the Pistons have shown no desire to pursue that scenario.

In fact, that appears to be Detroit’s response to just about every Duren trade idea at the moment.

The Kings and Bucks are among the teams with serious interest in the 22-year-old center, but Patterson and Amick report that Detroit continues to decline sign-and-trade discussions. Sacramento hasn’t even spoken with the Pistons about Duren since late June. 

So this probably isn’t one for the trade machine just yet.

Duren remains unsigned and has until Thursday night to choose between Detroit’s fully guaranteed five-year, $200 million offer and a one-year qualifying offer worth about $9.6 million. The latter would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. 

Meanwhile, Davis is entering his first full season in Washington and is expected to anchor a Wizards team that actually intends to win after three miserable seasons. 

The Wizards may like the idea of swapping him for Duren. But it takes two, and the Pistons aren’t dancing.
