The Warriors are sending center James Wiseman to the G League, as the former No. 2 overall pick has not been in the regular rotation.
Wiseman, 21, is 7-foot-0 and has appeared in 11 games after all of last season with a knee injury. He is averaging 6.8 points. 3.8 rebounds and 13.4 minutes.
Wiseman will be with the G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors for an “extended” period of time, said Warriors coach Steve Kerr.
“What I love about James is that he’s got incredible character and work ethic, and care for the team. An unbelievable teammate,” Kerr said, via Jack Winter of ClutchPoints. “Wise is all in on the team. Because of his talent, because of all those characteristics I just talked about, I’m a huge believer that long-term he’s gonna be a really good player. But he needs reps, he needs to play, and it’s not easy when you don’t get minutes. It’s hard for anybody.”
Warriors guard Jordan Poole also offered insight into Wiseman being sent to Sant Cruz.
“I told him it’s not a demotion. It’s not a punishment,” Poole said, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “He’s going to go down there and shoot as many shots as he wants, get as many touches as he wants, work on as many moves as he wants.”
Wiseman was drafted No. 2 overall in 2020, appearing in 39 games as a rookie.
