Report: ‘Zero truth’ to Stephen Curry trade rumors

The Warriors have spent another summer trying to find Stephen Curry some help.

What they apparently don’t have to worry about is Curry asking them to send him somewhere else.

Despite speculation about the 38-year-old superstar potentially becoming frustrated with Golden State’s direction, NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints says there is “zero truth” to the idea that Curry could request a trade.

“Steph Curry is not going to be requesting a trade,” Siegel said on the Clutch Scoops podcast, via BasketNews. “We have that on extremely good authority from the Warriors that Steph Curry is staying there. He wants to remain there his entire career.”

That’s fairly definitive. The speculation has surfaced after Golden State came up empty in its pursuits of several major stars this offseason, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jaylen Brown and LeBron James.

Curry, though, apparently isn’t looking for an exit. In fact, the next development could be another contract extension.

Curry becomes eligible Aug. 29 for a two-year extension worth up to $136.7 million. Siegel said the Warriors essentially intend to let their franchise player decide what that contract looks like.

“By all accounts from what I’ve been told, the Warriors are going to basically present him with a blank contract on the table with that number being the max and say, ‘Steph, what do you want?’” Siegel said.

That could mean one year. It could mean two. Curry could take the maximum amount or potentially give Golden State a discount.

The important part is that both sides reportedly want to continue the relationship.

Siegel said there is mutual interest in completing an extension this offseason and predicted Curry will ultimately sign another two-year deal, perhaps sometime in September.

“Steph Curry is the now, he is the past, he is their future,” Siegel said. “Everything about this franchise revolves around Steph Curry.”
