Teams in Taiwan are aiming to sign free agent center Enes Freedom and point guard Isaiah Thomas, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
As we relayed here, along with that, the Tainan TSG GhostHawks has been in contract talks with free agent forward Carmelo Anthony. All of this follows the recent signing of free agent center Dwight Howard with the Taoyuan Leopards.
Freedom, 29, is 6-foot-10 and last appeared in the NBA last season, when he appeared in 35 games with the Celtics and averaged 3.7 points and 4.6 rebounds. He was traded to the Rockets in February, then waived shortly thereafter.
He has also spent time with the Trail Blazers and Knicks on two occasions each, as well as the Thunder and Jazz. Freedom has contended he is banned from the NBA for his political statements, particularly for speaking out against China.
Thomas, 33, is 5-9 and finished last season with the Hornets. He gave a fairly decent showing, playing 17 games and averaging 8.3 points on 43 percent shooting — his highest percentage since the 2016-17 season, when he was an All-Star with the Celtics.
He has also spent time with the Mavericks, Lakers, Pelicans, Wizards, Nuggets, Cavaliers, Suns and Kings.
Anthony, 38, is 6-8 and has remained unsigned after his contract expired last season at the end of last season, which he spent with the Lakers.
He appeared in 69 games last season, averaging 13.2 points and 4.2 rebounds — coming off the bench in all but three. He had been linked to the Celtics early in training camp, but was never brought on board.
Along with the Lakers, Anthony has spent time with the Nuggets, Knicks, Thunder and Trail Blazers, and has been playing primarily a reserve role since his run in Portland in 2020.
A 12-time All-Star, he carries NBA career averages of 22.5 points, and 6.5 rebounds, shooting 45 percent from the field.
