Lakers Aim to Keep Moving Forward, With Anthony Davis Playing 'Out of His Mind'

Yes, the Lakers have beaten three teams in three games, and while maybe just one of those opponents is expected to make the playoffs, LA could have used anything to lift its spirits.

So, three straight is three straight. Who cares if the wins came over the Nets (minus Kyrie Irving), the Pistons and the Spurs, or that all three games took place at home?

For the first time this season, the Lakers can feel good about themselves. When you start the season 2-10, you wonder if that day would ever come.

Interestingly, all three games have come without star forward LeBron James, who has missed four straight overall with an adductor injury. That has left fellow star forward/center Anthony Davis to pick up the slack.

“AD is playing out of his mind,” Ham said, via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “He’s in a great rhythm.”

Along with Davis, the Lakers are getting contributions from everywhere. Point guard Russell Westbrook looks considerably more comfortable coming off the bench. Shooting guard Austin Reaves is perhaps playing the best stretch of his career. Fellow guard Lonnie Walker IV has proven to be a nice offseason pickup. On and on it goes.

That said, there is a long road ahead, and the Lakers seem to understand that if anyone is to take them seriously, they’ll have to chip away at their win-loss record little by little. It can’t all be accomplished at one.

They next pay a visit to the Suns on Tuesday night. After that, it’s road games Friday and Saturday, both vs. the Spurs.

“I think everybody’s confidence is very high, while not getting too high,” Davis said, via McMenamin. “Going into Phoenix to start the trip will be a good test for us. But like I said, I think the guys’ confidence is high on both ends of the ball going into that game. Which, we want to start the road trip off with a W. Then, San Antonio back-to-back.

“So, it feels good to get three in a row. Now we just got to carry it over into the road and put some more wins together.”
