Thunder sign three players

The Thunder filled the three roster spots they opened Friday, signing forward Dariq Whitehead and guards Lamar Wilkerson and Nate Johnson, the team announced.

All three received non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contracts and are expected to join the Oklahoma City Blue. Their agreements provide for bonuses of $91,000 apiece if they’re waived and spend at least 60 days with the G League affiliate.

Whitehead, 22, is familiar with the program. The former first-round pick spent most of last season with the Blue before finishing the season on a 10-day hardship contract with Memphis.

He averaged 11.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 34 G League appearances. The shooting left room for improvement: Whitehead made 36.7 percent of his field-goal attempts and 29.3 percent from beyond the arc.

A return to the Blue would give him another opportunity to work toward a more consistent offensive game.

Wilkerson and Johnson went undrafted in June, when their agreements with Oklahoma City were first reported.

The Thunder created room earlier Friday by waiving Zhaire Smith, Anthony Pritchard and Andrew Holifield. Those three are also expected to join the Blue, making the latest moves another step in assembling Oklahoma City’s G League roster.
