Cam Christie cleared waivers Friday and is headed back to the Clippers. This time, he’ll be on a two-way contract.
The 21-year-old guard has agreed to return, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, with Ohm Youngmisuk confirming the news.
As we reported Wednesday, Los Angeles waived Christie one day before his approximately $2.3 million salary would have become guaranteed. The sides had twice pushed back that deadline during the offseason.
Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported Thursday night that the Clippers were interested in bringing Christie back under a different arrangement. Once he went unclaimed, that path opened.
Christie’s new deal will pay $678,882 this season and allow him to be active for up to 50 regular-season games.
The former second-round pick appeared in 55 games last season, averaging 2.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.7 minutes. He’s still looking to establish himself, and the two-way agreement gives the Clippers more time to work with him.
Los Angeles has an available two-way slot but a full preseason roster, so another player must be released before Christie can officially sign.
His departure lasted two days. The contract changed, but the Clippers aren’t done developing him.
