Sixers give Tacko Fall two-way deal to help depleted frontcourt

The Sixers are keeping Tacko Fall, giving the 7-foot-6 center another NBA opportunity and themselves some needed frontcourt depth.

The team announced Saturday that it converted Fall’s Exhibit 10 contract to a two-way deal. He fills the final opening alongside Caleb Love and Rayan Rupert.

Fall, 30, missed the preseason with a strained hip, but his work before the injury and presence in the locker room made an impression, as relayed by Tony Jones of The Athletic.

The Sixers have already taken several hits at center. Adem Bona has been dealing with a foot sprain, while Ariel Hukporti suffered a torn Achilles in his preseason debut and will miss the season.

That left Philadelphia looking for additional options behind Joel Embiid. Fall joins a group that includes Bona, Dominick Barlow and Jabari Walker.

Fall last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season with the Cavaliers. Across 37 regular-season appearances for the Cavs and Celtics, he collected 90 rebounds and 30 blocks in 228 minutes.

Since leaving Cleveland, the Senegalese center has played in China and with the New Zealand Breakers in Australia’s National Basketball League.

His two-way contract will pay $678,882 and allow him to appear in up to 50 regular-season games.

The Sixers are expected to begin the season with 14 standard contracts and three two-way players. That makes those two-way spots useful insurance, especially with so many questions about who will be available behind Embiid.
