Sixers waive four players

The Sixers have waived Dillon Jones, Cris Carroll, Jameer Nelson Jr. and Taye Fields, bringing their roster down to the group expected to open the regular season.

The moves were reported by Matt Murphy. All four players were on non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contracts and are likely headed to the Delaware Blue Coats.

Philadelphia’s payroll left little opportunity to keep another player on a standard deal. The Sixers are operating close to their first-apron hard cap and will begin the season with 14 standard contracts rather than the maximum 15.

Jones and Nelson each appeared in four preseason games. Jones, a former first-round pick who spent last season with the championship-winning Knicks, averaged 4.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 13.8 minutes. Nelson averaged 7.3 points in 12.4 minutes while shooting 50 percent from the field.

Carroll and Fields had brief stays, signing Friday without appearing in a preseason game. Their contracts, like those of Jones and Nelson, provide an opportunity to earn bonuses of up to $91,000 by spending at least 60 days with Delaware.

The Sixers also converted Tacko Fall to a two-way deal Saturday, filling their final opening in that category.

That leaves Philadelphia with 17 players overall: 14 on standard contracts and three on two-way agreements. Unless another move materializes, the opening-night roster appears set.
